About

Welcome – I’m Glad You’re Here
My name is Shelia Bynum, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a deep passion for helping individuals navigate the challenges of mental health with compassion, expertise, and personalized care. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or just feeling overwhelmed by life’s demands, my practice is a place of understanding, support, and hope.
My Mission
My mission is to provide accessible, evidence-based psychiatric care that prioritizes your individual experience, cultural identity, and personal goals. I believe mental health is just as important as physical health—and that everyone deserves a safe, nonjudgmental space to begin healing.
Core Values
• Compassion – Every person has a story. I approach care with empathy and respect for your journey.
• Integrity – Honesty, transparency, and accountability are at the heart of my practice.
• Collaboration – You are the expert on your life. I work with you, not just for you.
• Cultural Sensitivity – I honor your unique background, beliefs, and experiences.
• Growth – Healing is a process. I am here to support you at every step, with patience and purpose.
My Story
My journey into mental health care began with a desire to bridge the gap between medical treatment and human connection. After years of nursing in diverse clinical settings, I saw how often mental health concerns went unnoticed, unspoken, or untreated—especially in marginalized communities. This motivated me to pursue advanced training in psychiatry, where I could combine clinical skills with compassionate listening.
I became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner because I believe in treating the whole person—not just the symptoms. Mental health is deeply personal, and care should reflect that. My goal is to provide holistic, evidence-based interventions that empower individuals to reclaim their voice, confidence, and quality of life.
What You Can Expect
From our first session, you can expect a welcoming and judgment-free environment. I take time to get to know you, understand your concerns, and develop a treatment plan that feels right for you. Whether we’re exploring therapy options, medication management, or lifestyle changes, you’re always an active participant in your care.
Let’s Begin This Journey Together
Mental health is not a destination—it’s a journey. If you’re ready to take the next step, I’m here to walk with you. Together, we’ll work toward healing, growth, and a renewed sense of purpose.
